Panthers News · West HS Krakens Ultimate Wins UUDA State Championship!

Finishing off a season like no other, the West HS Krakens Ultimate “A” team took the Fall 2020 state championship on October 29th! Upsetting powerhouse club, Lone Peak, the Krakens survived a quarter-final scare, squeaking out an 11-10 universe point victory, and won handily in the semis.
The final against Lone Peak started out rough, with the Krakens down 0-2, before scoring six unanswered points to lead at half-time.  Captains Rory Beals and Elijah Watchalotone led the team on defense and deep hucks, winning in style with Oscar Graff snagging the winning disc to win 11-4.

Seniors Beals, Graff, Watchalotone, Sam Dellapenta, A.J. Langone, and Dillon Tang will be back in Spring 2021 to defend their championship one more time before graduation. They’ve set an example for the rest of the Krakens Club to work towards. More than 70 student athletes, 6th grade to 12th, are putting in the effort!

Running hills all summer and fall, practicing and playing in masks (in 95-degree heat!) to protect their teammates and community, the Krakens Ultimate club has made West proud. They’ll be scrimmaging all winter (still with masks!) to be ready to go when Spring 2021 comes around.
